Art education is one of the Straw Museum's top priorities: the contents of the displays are well researched and presented to stimulate all senses – certain objects may even be handled. Videos, sound and texts explain the exhibits, the visitors may try on hats and leaf through digitalised pattern books. For our English-speaking audience, a booklet contains the English translation of all the labels and texts, and the videos have English subtitles.
Once a month there is a free public tour through the collection (in German). Whether it is just for you or for a group, you may book private group tours in English, German, French or Italian. We even offer plaiting demonstrations.
Go to Tours for more details.
The workshops and programmes for children, youths and school classes are all conducted in German. Refer to the German page for more details.
Children between 5 and 9 years may discover the museum at their own pace, stopping off at the many activity boxes placed throughout the museum. Zaggli, the museum mascot named after a plait from the Freiamt, accompanies them through the galleries and presents them with a special task at each box.
